Mt St Helens global view.
This volcano erupted for the last time on Aug. 18, 1980, and blew 1312 ft (400 m)
off the summit in a lateral blast, NE of the volcano, searing and flattening the
forest.
The bulb you can see in the crater is the lava dome.
Also these pictures show how the trees were flattened by the lateral blast.
Of course, all the trees indicate the direction of the blast!
